Elementary Photo Day FAQ
Can I order if I missed the order deadline (expiry date)?
Yes: Send your order to the studio after the photo orders have been picked up from the school, and add $10.00 to the package cost to cover individual handling, packaging and mailing to your home. Be sure to include your home address!
Where’s the class group photo?
Most schools that have portraits taken in the fall have the group photos taken after Christmas. The Class Photo is usually taken (or delivered) to each student later in the year.
I'm not 100% satisfied with my photos. Can I get retakes?
Yes: If you would prefer not to order, simply keep the order envelope. Parents will be informed by the school of the retake date.
High school packages by Mountain West Studios differ from ours. Why?
The number and size requirements for photos in Elementary and High Schools generally are different, and that’s why we have custom designed photo packages for different ages.
Can two students be photographed together?
Our portrait camera and background width is especially set up to include just one person in the portrait.
May I bring in my Pre-School child for a portrait?
Yes: Children three (3) years or older may have a photo taken as long as the school approves. Preschool children are not eligible for the Family Plan.
Is it possible to order several packages?
Yes: Just complete the order envelope clearly.
Any tips for better portrait photos?
Yes: Long sleeves are recommended, and small patterns or solid bright colours photograph best. Avoid white or very pale colours. Hair should be neat.
May I pay by cheque?
Yes: As long as the parent (or guardian)’s name, address, phone number and account number are printed on the cheque payable to Mountain West Studios Ltd. We do NOT accept postdated cheques.
I like the package I’ve received. Can I order more?
Yes: A Re-Order form is included in your package, and it shows how you may order more photos from our studio.
I loved the photos. Does Mountain West take family photos?
Yes: Give us a call to learn more about our family group and graduation portrait photography services.
Does Mountain West take photos in all our district’s schools?
As a leading School Photography Specialist, chances are we do photos for many schools in the area.
Do you have a family plan? (Elementary Schools only)
Yes: For large families with three or more children enrolled in the SAME school, the first two packages will be full price. The third and succeeding students will receive an equivalent package at NO CHARGE. Your school will receive FAMILY PLAN COUPONS to be given to the families with three or more children at the same school. Envelopes for students using the family plan must be clearly filled out and a coupon inserted. A SEPARATE ENVELOPE IS REQUIRED FOR EACH STUDENT! Preschool children are not eligible for this program.
At Mountain West Studios we provide two types of payment programs for our customers: Preview and Select. The following FAQs pertain to those specific programs.
Preview Plan FAQ
What are Preview Plans?
With our Preview Plans, you may preview proofs of two poses before you purchase your picture packages. Choose from either pose or both. About seven to ten days after photo day, your order envelope, with two preview photographs attached, will arrive at your school, complete with ordering procedures.
Is it okay to order from both previews?
Yes: Your school has chosen the “Contemporary” program that has two different styles of portraits. One is the traditional head and shoulders portrait, and the second is a contemporary setting portrait with a different background. Custom units and complete packages may be ordered from both previews. However, a package may NOT be split between the two poses.
Are the finished enlargements exactly like the previews?
Previews are only first-run "contact" prints. The finished enlargements will be "cropped" slightly (excess background removed), and corrected for density, colour, and position.
Why did I receive just one and not two proofs?
Most order envelopes have two previews. If we are unable to print from a preview picture, or if the eyes are closed, we will enclose just the best preview.
Select (or "Prepaid") Plan FAQ
What are Select Plans?
With our Select Plans, students order and pay at the camera. These are the least expensive plans with the fastest turnaround times. And it is the most convenient procedure for your school to administer.
Do I have to order and pay on photo day?
Yes: Your order and payment must be given to the photographer on photo day when the photo is taken. Late orders are subject to a $10 processing & handling fee.
Other Schools see proofs before ordering. Why don’t we?
The photo plan your school has chosen, called the “SELECT” plan, offers a lower price, faster service, and much less involvement of teachers’ and secretary’s time.
Can I change a package?
A range of packages is formatted in our photo printers that CANNOT be changed. However, you may order from the custom option provided to create your own package, or add extra photos to the package you have chosen.
