Secondary Photo Day FAQ
Any tips for better portrait photos?
Yes: Long sleeves are recommended, and small patterns or solid, bright colours photograph best. Avoid white or very pale colours. Hair should be neat.
Can two students be photographed together?
Our portrait camera and background width is especially set up to include just one person in the portrait.
Can I wear my hat for my picture?
The reason for a “No Hats” policy is that hats create a dark shadow over the eyes in most cases. Where headgear is worn for religious purposes, of course it may be worn for the picture. Any shadows produced from this will not be retouched. Students and parents should be aware that wearing hats before having their picture taken will result in messy hair or "hathead".
May I pay by cheque?
Yes: As long as the parent (or guardian)’s name, address and phone number are printed on the cheque. Please make cheque payable to Mountain West Studios Ltd. We do not accept postdated cheques.
What if I missed my photos today?
Listen for announcements from the school as to when our photographer returns for additional portraits (about a month after your first photo day).
I don’t like my pictures. Can I get Retakes?
Yes: The retake date is generally advised to the parents by the school in the school newsletter.
Is it possible to order several packages?
Definitely, just complete the order envelope clearly.
Can I order if I missed the order Deadline (Expiry Date)?
Yes. Send your order to the studio after the photo orders have been picked up from the school, and add $10.00 to the package cost to cover individual handling, packaging and mailing to your home. Be sure to include your full address!
My photos didn’t turn up... What do I do now?
Occasionally a package goes missing. Check back with the school office in a few days. Otherwise, prepare to have your portrait taken again when the photographer returns next time. It will help if you have a proof of payment, or, at least, your ID.
I like the package I’ve received. Can I order more?
Yes: A Re-Order form is included in your package, and it shows how you may order more photos from our studio.
I loved the Photos. Does Mountain West take Family Photos?

PREVIEW PROGRAM
If your school is on the PREVIEW program, you are able to view your pictures before you order. You will receive two small picture proofs attached to your order envelope seven to ten days after the first photo day. Here are some F.A.Q.s that deal specifically with our Preview plans.
Are the finished enlargements exactly like the previews?
Previews are only first-run “contact” prints; the finished enlargements will be "cropped" slightly (excess background removed), and corrected for density and colour.
Is it okay to order from both Previews?
Yes: Custom units and complete packages may be ordered from both previews. However, a package may NOT be split between the two poses.
Why did I receive just one and not two proofs?
Most order envelopes have 2 previews. If we are unable to print from a preview, or if the eyes are closed, we will enclose only the best preview.
I don’t like my previews. Can I get retakes?

SELECT PROGRAM
If your school is on the SELECT program, your school will inform you about a week in advance that your photographer is coming to take pictures at your school, and will provide you with order envelopes. On picture day, please bring your photo envelope and payment to your Mountain West Studios photographer. Here are some F.A.Q.s that deal specifically with our Select plans.
Do I have to order and pay on photo day?
Yes. To receive a package, your order and payment must be given to the photographer as the photo is taken, otherwise, you will only receive an ID card.
I only had my ID photo today. May I order packages later?
Yes. Late orders are subject to a $10 processing and handling fee.
Must I have exact change?
Exact amounts are preferred, but our photographer can make change. There is no need to bother the office for change.
Is it necessary to have the envelope?
Yes: We will need to know your name, grade and division/cap/etc. and the package you would like to order. For ID only, you DO NOT need an envelope.
